(WAAY) – Research done by Georgetown University Center for Children and Families (CCF) found that Medicaid and ALL Kids aided significantly in the number of uninsured children dropping between 2008 and 2013.

Since 2011, the number of uninsured children in Alabama has fallen by nearly 11,000, according to a new report from CCF.

The state’s estimated child uninsured rate of 4.3% is the nation’s 10th best, and the best among all Southern states.

ALL Kids is paid for in part through matching funds from the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). It’s a block grant program, and funding will expire next year if Congress does not extend funding. More than 88,000Alabama children could lose ALL Kids coverage if Congress does not do so.

Arise Citizen’s Policy Project, an independent policy research group, is recommending Medicaid expansion to help more children in the state.
