Arizona Becomes The Last State To Provide Health Insurance To Low-Income Children

After 6 years, Arizona is re-activating their Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP): KidsCare on Tuesday, to provide health insurance to underprivileged families. Especially, KidsCare will allow for an approximate of 40,000 newly eligible children to be covered with health insurance.

A 2014 study by Georgetown University researchers concluded that Arizona families who were forced to switch from the KidsCare program to private insurance sold through the marketplace likely paid more and received fewer benefits. At the time, Congress was considering an end to federal funding for CHIP, which covers about 8 million children.
