Report: Working NC Parents Benefit from Closing Coverage Gap

RALEIGH– North Carolina has one of the highest uninsured rates in the country, with only one of every four parents being uninsured. A new report released by the Georgetown University Center for Children and Families and the advocacy group NC Child finds that many of those parents would benefit from closing the Medicaid coverage gap.

It’s important to note that many of these uninsured parents do have jobs. Data shows that adults who make $737 to $1,674 for a family of three fall into the coverage gap, which means they are ineligible to receive Medicaid or premium tax credit through the Affordable Care Act.

Data from the Georgetown Center and other bodies of research indicate that extending Medicaid coverage to parents has a long-term positive impact for children.
