Northwest Indiana Residents Run Into Problems With HIP 2.0

A woman, Emily Kowalski, was pregnant, and had to switch her Healthy Indiana Plan to maternity plan, but she had a miscarriage, and got moved back without her knowledge to HIP Basic. Overall, it was a terrible experience for her, but now, the House Republicans are aiming to continue HIP’s steps, and replace the Affordable Care Act, featuring layers of bureaucracy.

“I do think we will be seeing more waiver approvals in this administration,” said Joan Alker, executive director of the Center for Children and Families at Georgetown University. “I think this administration has been very clear they intend to give states more flexibility. Unfortunately, flexibility in this case means flexibility to charge people more and impose barriers to coverage.”
