About Us
The Center for Children and Families (CCF) is an independent, nonpartisan policy and research center whose mission is to expand and improve health coverage for America's children and families.
CCF is based at
Georgetown University's Health Policy Institute (HPI). HPI is a multi-disciplinary group of faculty and staff that is dedicated to conducting research on key issues in health policy and health services. HPI is affiliated with the University's public policy graduate program (the
Georgetown Public Policy Institute).
Supported through private foundation grants, CCF's focus is on developing effective, practical strategies to improve access to, and quality of, health care for children and families, particularly those with low and moderate incomes. CCF's work is guided by these facts:
- In 2006, 9.4 million children under age 19 and 37 million adults (including 11.6 million parents) in America were uninsured.
- Families are finding it more and more difficult to access care. As health care costs continue to grow over time, families have an increasingly difficult time purchasing coverage.
- Health insurance coverage is vital to healthy development—uninsured children are more likely to go without immunizations and miss school because of untreated illnesses, while all uninsured persons have less access to primary and preventive care.
- Solutions exist to cover children and families, whether through private-public initiatives or public health insurance.
