ICHIA Option: Which States Cover Legal Immigrant Children in Medicaid/CHIP?


The 2009 Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act (CHIPRA) gave states a new option to begin using federal matching dollars to cover lawfully residing children during their first five years in the U.S.  This fact sheet provides an overview of this option and details the states that have taken this option to date.
