GEORGETOWN: PROGRESS SLOWING ON INSURING KIDS—In 2013, the uninsured rate for children did not drop significantly from the previous year for the first time in five years, notes Georgetown’s Center for Children and Families. The 2013 rate was 7.1 percent, compared to 7.2 percent in 2012. The center credits CHIP for much of the progress since 2008. Whether the general decline continues, stagnates or reverses is up to the lawmakers set to consider if CHIP funding should expire next year or be extended, the Georgetown researchers write.
