Children’s Healthcare to Run Out of Money

For months, the GOP has repeatedly tried — and repeatedly failed — to write a healthcare bill that will allow them to fulfill Donald Trump’s campaign promise to repeal and replace Obamacare. In the midst of all this scheming that could ultimately see 23 million Americans without health insurance, the Republicans forgot one teeny tiny thing: the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) — which provides affordable health insurance to kids in low-income families — is set to expire on Saturday.

Earlier this month, Joan Alker, executive director of Georgetown University’s Center for Children and Families, described the situation as “ridiculous,” and told reporters that, “It’s already too late. We have never had a situation like this before.”
