Millions Of Children Have Lost Their Health Insurance—What’s Our Plan?

The COVID-19 pandemic has constrained the economy in ways that would have been difficult to imagine only a few months ago. After years of economic expansion, unemployment reached 11.1 percent in June… Together these programs already insure nearly 40 percent of all children, and they will require both short-term buttressing and long-term solutions so that they can sustain coverage for a growing proportion of children and adolescents. The Families First Coronavirus Response Act provides a number of measures that will temporarily shore-up state Medicaid and CHIP programs for children and parents who have lost their ESI or are otherwise newly income eligible.
