Transparency in Medicaid/CHIP Waivers is Urgent

Today 34 national groups sent a letter to Secretary Sibelius asking her to finalize the Section 1115 Medicaid and CHIP public process waiver regulations as soon as possible. As the letter notes, state Medicaid waiver activity is a hot topic these days.

The Secretary and her colleagues at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services have an enormous amount on their plates, but the signatories underscored how important it is to finalize these proposed regulations as soon as possible so that stakeholders have an opportunity for meaningful public input on proposed waivers. These waivers can have an enormous impact on the substance and financing of the Medicaid program.

The signatories to the letter include a diverse group of consumer and provider groups such as AARP, National Association of Children’s Hospitals, Families USA, First Focus, Georgetown Center for Children and Families, SEIU, The Arc/United Cerebral Palsy and many more. Check out the letter here.
