Statement on the House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman’s SCHIP Bill

Cindy Mann, executive director of the Georgetown University Center for Children and Families, issued the following statement on the release of the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Children’s Health and Medicare Protection (CHAMP) Act of 2007 (H.R. 3162) to renew the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).

The House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman’s bill to renew SCHIP represents a major step forward for children — one that is solidly in line with voter sentiment. According to a July 2007 nationwide poll, 91 percent of Americans want Congress to help states cover more uninsured children.
