WASHINGTON (WUSA9) — Many of our viewers in the metro area have many questions about the affordable care act. How will it affect you and your families?
So we presented Sonya Schwartz of the Georgetown University Center for Children and Families with a few questions from YOU about the new healthcare legislation.
Viewer #1: If I already have health insurance is this going to affect me?
Schwartz: So if you already have health insurance and you are happy with it then you have nothing to worry about, you can stay with your plan.
Viewer #2 How will it affect the elderly, the next generation, because I know a lot of times things are planned now how does it affect people down the line?
Schwartz: So if you are elderly now I think you can sleep easier, if you got kids or grandkids more coverage options are going to be available to them pretty soon.
Another thing about the Affordable Care Act that people don’t know is that it closed the doughnut hole for people on Medicare so that they no longer have to pay for prescription drugs at a certain point.
And in terms of the next generation and the next generation in this country we’ve been offering coverage for kids for a long time but we know that all the talk about coverage and it being more affordable for families there’s gonna be a welcome mat effect and I think more kids and grandkids are gonna get into programs and get thehealth coverage that they need.
