Georgetown University’s Center for Children and Families reported that in 2013 Florida had the highest percentage of uninsured children in the Southeast. The main reason for this poor performance is that many parents do not have coverage and do not benefit from the additional federal aid such as Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.
The results did not surprise Florida advocates. The parents of many uninsured children do not have coverage themselves, thus if Florida expands Medicaid many children and parents would have coverage.
