There is a strong push from community advocates to help immigrants get access to health care, particularly children who can be insured regardless of their immigration status. Advocates are focussing especially on the Hispanic insurance rates, which are known to be disproportionately uninsured. According a study conducted by the Georgetown University Health Policy Institute, 11.5 percent of Latino children nationwide were uninsured last year, compared with 7.1% percent of children in the entire population. New York has put in resources to increase Latino enrollment and is actually doing better than average, with 4.7% of its Latino children remaining uninsured.
