Advocates call for Medicaid expansion

ASHEVILLE—A report detailing the effect of North Carolina’s health care coverage gap on children written by health care advocates was released on Thursday. There were six demonstrations held across the state that called upon the Governor to expand Medicaid.

According to the report by Georgetown University’s Center for Children and Families, more than one-quarter of North Carolinians eligible for expanded Medicaid enrollment under the Affordable Care Act are parents. There are 144,000 uninsured children in North Carolina, the report said.

Governor Pat PcCrory was urged by health care advocates and local residents to close the Medicaid gap in a demonstration on Thursday outside the Minnie Jones Health center
