Virginia lags neighboring states in number of children with health insurance

Nearby states are doing better than Virginia when it comes to children with health insurance, according to a report that shows the uninsured rate of children nationally reaching a historic low of 6 percent since implementation of national health care reform.

“The improvement was widespread across the country, with 25 states showing statistically significant declines in the number of uninsured children,” said Joan Alker, executive director of the Georgetown University Health Policy Institute Center for Children and Families, one of the authors of the report.
