Percentage of MI Kids Without Insurance Down

Michigan is making gains in children’s health coverage, according to a new report. The findings released Wednesday by the Georgetown University Center for Children and Families show Michigan’s rate of uninsured children was 3.8 percent in 2014, down from four percent in 2013. Joan Alker, with the center, says the report highlights the progress states are seeing in getting kids covered since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

Alker notes that while Michigan did not see a dramatic drop, the state ranks 12th among states for the percentage of children without health insurance. Nationally, the number of uninsured children fell by sixteen percent in 2014 with some states achieving twice that amount.
