Report: Vermont Tops In Nation for Ensuring Children Have Health Insurance

According to the new report by Georgetown University’s Center for Children and Families, the rates of insured children nationwide reached a historical high of 95%. Vermont is the first in the nation with the lowest number of uninsured children, dropping the number from 2013-2015, from 4,000 to 1,000.

The director of the Community Catalyst Children’s Health Project for the New England Alliance for Children’s Health, Eva Stahl, mentioned that they are very happy that they are the leading state, and that Massachusetts is right behind them!

Vermont is tops in the nation when it comes to ensuring that children in the state have health insurance coverage, according to a new report by the Georgetown University Center for Children and Families.

Joan Alker, executive director of the Georgetown University Center for Children and Families, says much of the Green Mountain State’s progress can be attributed to the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

“There’s just been so much activity in this area with new coverage options thanks to the Affordable Care Act that for kids it’s really allowed them to build on the success we already had from Medicaid and CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program),” she states.
