How The CBO Score Could Shake Up Republicans’ Health Plan

It’s expected as soon as today, and it’s going to predict a big coverage decline. And that will throw another headwind in front of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell as he attempts to win over still-uncommitted Republican senators ahead of a planned Thursday vote.

How rural America depends on Medicaid. Fifteen percent of seniors in small towns and rural areas are covered by the program, according to the Georgetown Center on Children and Families, but in 19 states that share is higher — with Alaska, Mississippi, Maine and Louisiana topping the list. According to Georgetown CCF, those states would be disproportionately affected by the GOP’s planned spending reductions to Medicaid. See the data.
