Obamacare Made Life Better for Utahns

In 2013, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, 402,000 Utahns lived without health insurance — 14 percent of the state’s population.

That number fell to 265,000 in 2016. In three years, 137,000 Utahns obtained health coverage, reducing the state’s uninsured rate to 8.8 percent.

“Just like previous attempts, this bill will gut Medicaid, undermine consumer protections and raise the cost of health insurance for children, seniors, people with disabilities and those who can least afford it,” according to a statement by Voices for Utah Children.

Attempts to repeal the ACA and cap Medicaid spending would reverse those gains, said Jessie Mandle, a senior health care analyst at Voices for Utah Children.

“Congress should protect these critical programs, and instead turn to finding bipartistan solutions to strengthen the health care Marketplace,” Mandel said on utahchildren.org.
