Expanding Medicaid saves parents, children

As a pediatrician, I work every day to ensure children receive the care they need to have the best chance at a healthy life. I also know that children are more likely to be healthy if their parents have access to health coverage. Nebraska can take an important step forward in improving the health of children and families by voting for Initiative 427 to expand Medicaid on November 6.

Expanding Medicaid not only allows our society to live up to its essential moral duty to provide for the health and safety of our children, but it also saves money in the long term. According to the Georgetown Center for Children and Families, the United States spends billions of dollars annually to remedy poor adult health that stems from adverse childhood experiences נspecifically nearly $100 billion annually for cardiovascular care and more than $85 billion in mental health. By investing in treatment for manageable health conditions before they grow into expensive, chronic health problems, we are able to better manage health and be more financially efficient.
