High Stakes for Children When Medicaid Continuous Coverage Protection Expires
Wednesday, February 15 @ 11:30 a.m. ET
Georgetown University Center for Children and Families (CCF) released a new report with state-by-state data showing that 54% of children are covered by Medicaid/CHIP today. When states resume regular operations after Medicaid’s coverage protection expires on April 1, the nation’s child uninsured rate could double if states do not pay special attention to keeping eligible children enrolled. An estimated 3 out of 4 children losing Medicaid/CHIP coverage will still be eligible but will fall through the cracks due to administrative obstacles and red tape.
Speakers:
- Joan Alker, Executive Director, Georgetown University CCF will release the report findings.
- Tricia Brooks, Research Professor, Georgetown University McCourt School of Public Policy, and former Director of New Hampshire’s CHIP program will provide an overview of what states can do to help mitigate coverage loss for children who are still eligible for Medicaid or CHIP.
- Lisa Costello, M.D., MPH, FAAP, member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on State Government Affairs and immediate past president of the AAP West Virginia Chapter will provide the pediatrician’s perspective.
