No this blog is not about Arkansas’ plans to use Medicaid dollars to purchase “private” coverage. It is about my first foray into the world of Twitter.
For many months now, various people whom I highly respect have told me that I need to start tweeting. A few months ago, I sighed heavily and signed up for a Twitter account and then paid no attention to it.
Then last week, I told our communications team that I was ready to start and was feeing enthusiastic. I need help though, I said, so we pulled up my account.
Much to my surprise, I already had 17 followers!! They included a few key reporters who cover health issues, some of our colleagues from around the country, my mother’s interior designer, and much to my surprise, my twelve-year old daughter. I did not know that she tweeted. Hmmm.
Then I noticed that I was following one and only one person – Harry Styles!! If you don’t know who Harry Styles is, google him right now. He has, like, at least one million followers including me. Most of them are twelve years old. Great. Super-duper. I asked Cathy Hope if the reporters could see that the only person I was following was Harry Styles. She confirmed my suspicions. Aargh … my account had already been hacked. Not a very auspicious entry into the twitter universe.
So this was a setback, but I am getting ready to unleash my first tweet on the world shortly. Follow me please at @joanalker1.
I am not going to tweet about Harry Styles though. He is, like, soooo six months ago.
