A Georgetown-La Raza found that only 62 Hispanic children in the District of Columbia did not have health insurance last year. According to Sonya Schwartz, with Georgetown University’s Health Policy Institute and lead author of the study which ranks the District as number one, “D.C is really the star, less than 1 percent of Latino kids in the District are uninsured”. She adds that “D.C has been covering low-income parents and parents on the brink of poverty for many, many years and it pays off because when you cover parents, you also get to cover the kids”. Schwartz says that having city services available in Spanish is paying off as it makes it much easier for parents to enroll in health coverage.
