ACA Repeal Would Reverse Historic Health Care Gains in Arkansas

The attempts of the new administration to remove the Affordable Care Act could reverse all the progress that Arkansas had made in healthcare coverage, according to a new report. The health policy director for Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families, Marquita Little, mentioned that ACA – apart from expanding the healthcare coverage – improved the economy as it diminished costs in hospitals. With that being said, Joan Alker, CCF’s executive director, mentioned that there must be a plan developed to replace the original plan – as about 360,000 would lose total coverage if the ACA is repealed.

Joan Alker, executive director for the Center for Children and Families at Georgetown University, contends lawmakers should develop and approve a replacement plan before forging ahead with a repeal. “Congressional leaders are moving very quickly to try to do this in January as soon as they return from the holidays, so people are not aware that this could happen so quickly and also they’re not aware of the consequences,” she states.
