An Arkansas policy backed by the Trump administration that requires people to have a job or lose Medicaid coverage will drop 4,353 people from the health program.

“Proponents of work requirements have it backwards,” said Joan Alker, executive director of the Center for Children and Families at Georgetown University. “Providing people with health coverage is more likely to support them in their efforts to work, and taking coverage away will undermine that goal.”

“What’s happening in Arkansas is confirming my worst fear, which is that this is really just designed to kick people off of coverage,” Alker said.
